Tribhuvan University has authorized individual campuses to initiate new programs as the tenure of the university's office bearers, including the vice chancellor, is concluding. In light of this, the executive council has granted multiple campuses the approval to offer sought-after subjects in the current market.
Founded in 2024 as a National Vocational Training Center, the Sanothimi Campus located in Bhaktapur exclusively offers educational programs within the Faculty of Education. However, it will now begin providing courses in management, science, and technology as well.
Due to a decline in student enrollment and the resulting campus crisis, the university has sanctioned the introduction of the Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) program this year, followed by Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology (BSc CSIT), and various other subjects starting from the next academic year.
Rumors suggest that an approval has been granted for the inclusion of BBS in management and BSc CSIT for computer science subjects. "If this materializes," remarked Professor Jagat Krishna Pokharel, the Head of Sanothimi Campus, "we will also admit students for these programs starting this year. The student count has remained notably low with only the Faculty of Education in operation."
In addition to the Sanothimi Campus, numerous other campuses have been authorized by the university to introduce fresh courses. The specific count of the 62 private campuses in TU that have received such authorization has not been disclosed.
The University maintains that permissions have been extended to multiple campuses for sought-after programs such as IT, BSC-CSIT, BBA, BBS, and BIM, all of which are experiencing a surge in demand within the market.
"The recently introduced programs primarily focus on IT and other self-sufficient initiatives, with approximately 12 individual campuses incorporating programs that are in high demand within the market," explained Prof. Dr. Dharma Kant Baskota, the Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University.
The University Grants Commission is also gearing up to authorize public campuses, which have obtained QAA, to introduce new subjects based on current requirements and demands. It is worth recalling that the tenure of the Vice-Chancellor of TU will conclude in a fortnight, while other office bearers will see their terms come to an end in three months.
