Tribhuvan University Constitutent colleges opening from Monday

Around 60 constituent colleges of Tribhuvan University (TU) will reopen from Monday after the agitating professors reached to an agreement with TU Vice-chancellor Hira Bahadur Maharjan. 

The Tribhuvan University Teachers Association (TUTA) had announced protest demanding that they be paid hiked salaries, among others. 

“We have been informed that the government has released budget for our increased salary and we will be receiving increased salary along with the salary of Shrawan (mid-July),” Prem Raj Khaniya, general secretary of TUTA, informed. 

“We have called off our protest programs from Sunday evening after the authorities agreed to address our demands,” Khaniya added. 

Earlier, Finance Minister Barshaman Pun had pledged an additional budget to TU.

With the hike in its employees´ salaries, TU needed an additional Rs 830 million. However, as of now, UGC has provided only Rs 120 million through it had been providing over Rs 3.5 billion every year to TU.

UGC has released an additional Rs 140 million -- Rs 60 million on Thursday and Rs 80 million on Friday. However, the budget is still short of Rs 570 million.
