Scholarship Committee of the Higher Secondary Education Board under Students’ Scholarship Bank has decided to provide scholarships to district toppers of School Leaving Certificate Exam-2068 from community schools.
According to Devi Barakoti, chief of the affiliation division and member secretary of Scholarship Committee of the Higher Secondary Education Board today said that under the new scholarship scheme, the district toppers would be getting free education with hostel facilities for Grade XI and XII.
He said scholarships would be provided to the toppers of remote districts enlisted in the Civil Service Act.
He said that the toppers of SLC-2068 from remote districts can choose schools to get the scholarships.
He added that students choosing schools without hostel facilities will not get accommodation benefits. “It is not the first time that scholarships are being provided to students,” said Barakoti, adding: “We used to provide scholarships to eligible hardworking students earlier as well, but this time students will be getting free accommodation as well.”
Usually every institutional school has to provide at least 10 per cent scholarship to hardworking poor students after they get highest score in scholarship exam conducted by the HSEB. In this general scholarship programme, students get a waiver on their tuition fees.
A meeting held yesterday at the Higher Secondary Education Board had also decided to distribute scholarships form free of cost to students. Earlier, students had to pay for the forms.
Barakoti said if a student is not identified as indigenous nationalities, Dalit and Madhesi, s/he needs to submit a recommendation letter from the concerned sector to prove that s/he belonged to certain indigenous nationality or community.
