Shortage of 1048 Recommended Teachers Compared to Demand

The Public Service Commission has recommended the appointment of 6,906 teachers from the primary level to the third grade through a competitive selection process. This recommendation comes after the commission's scrutiny of applications received through a teacher selection competition.

However, there seems to be a significant gap between the number of recommended appointments and the positions requested. The commission has suggested 1,448 fewer teachers than the number of vacancies initially advertised.

Initially, the commission announced vacancies for a total of 6,013 positions on Chaitra 09, 2079. Following an amendment on Chaitra 30, the number of vacancies increased to 7,954. These vacancies were to be filled through a three-phase examination process for teacher appointments.

Despite these efforts, it's noted that none of the provinces have sufficient teachers according to the demand. For instance, out of the 1,743 positions announced for the Koshi Province exam, only 1,377 teachers have been recommended for appointment, leaving a deficit of 366 candidates. Similarly, only 1,045 out of 1,161 selected candidates from the Madhesh Province exam have been recommended for appointment, leaving 116 teacher positions vacant.

Comparable inconsistencies can be seen in other regions as well. For instance, despite a demand for 1,537 teaching roles in Gandaki Province, recommendations for appointment were made for only 1,406 positions. Similarly, although Lumbini Province announced 986 vacancies, only 957 appointments were recommended. Likewise, out of 17,485 candidates who took part in the general examination from Koshi Province, only 3,766 passed.

The commission stated that the open positions will be automatically included in the upcoming advertisement. However, due to budget constraints, the Commission has been unable to issue new advertisements in line with this year's schedule.
