Practical education more important: Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel

Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, has urged the community schools catering technical and vocational education to focus more on practical knowledge than the bookish one.

At a workshop organized on 'organic farming: concept and practice' by the Adharsheela Mahottari here Friday, Minister Pokhrel requested the schools providing vocational and technical education to make aware the students on land management for better agricultural practice as the organic farming. He vowed that government would prepare a curriculum on organic farming and launch the initiative for organic farming in each village.

According to him, government would introduce technical and vocational education in 49 community schools next year. On the occasion, coordinator of Organic Nepal, Sonam Shakya, warned that the consumption of foods laced with pesticides damage human reproductive system. Esurient nature of farmers not only ruins land productivity but also affects directly to the human life.

Similarly, scientist at World Food Programme, Dr Ram Bhandari, said publicity of the importance of organic farming is essential. The organic farming is beneficial to farmers, soil and consumers, he added.

Soil specialist at Agriculture and Forestry University, Baburam Khanal, said farmers could be provided knowledge and skills on organic farming which is done with utilization of the local level resources.

Researcher Bhaneshwor Pokhrel viewed that the education without research is of no value.
