When the SLC results were announced a few weeks ago, it was evident that this year less students had passed the exams than in the previous years. Though the results instantly disappointed the failed students and their family members, coming down the road the results have equally disappointed many higher secondary schools (HSS) in student enrollment.

Devisthan Higher Secondary School, in Baglung is one such schools that is presently worried about the fate of its higher secondary classes. Of the total 52 students that appeared in SLC this year from the school, only one made it through. The school had not expected such results and with only of its products passing the SLC exam, the school is now worried about the fate of its +2 program. The +2 wing was established through joint contribution of the guardians and school so that the students need not have to travel away from home for higher education.

Bhairav Higher Secondary School of Bhakunde has also been sharing the same fate. It runs 10+2 classes for education and management subjects. However, with only four its SLC students getting through the students, it is now left with only four students. On top of that, of these four students, two have decided to pursue their higher studies in city.

"Now, our only hope is the supplementary examination. If students fail to pass that exam, too, it will be a huge problem for us," Nar Bahadur Thapa, a teacher at the school said.

Mahabidhyajan Higher Secondary School of Rayadanda whose five students made through SLC is also facing similar woes. Dipendra Bahadur Thapa, head of school's management committee, said that the school had decided to run the +2 wing so that the students wont have to walk four five hours to the nearest +2 for pursuing their studies. He informed that the school has to bear around one lakh rupees per month for running the school.

The SLC results have been disappointing to many HSS schools in the district, which has a total of 64 HSS. They are now looking forward the supplementary SLC exams for relief.
