Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Saturday has directed vice chancellor, rectors and registrars at Tribhuvan University to make appointment of dean in the Institute of Medicine based on the seniority and merit.
Meeting with Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Hira Bahadur Maharjan today morning, Prime Minister Bhattarai directed him to initiate action to this effect, sources at Baluwatar informed.
Rector of TU, Guna Nidhi Nyaupane said that appointment of dean based on seniority is likely today afternoon. Prime Minister Bhattrai has reviewed his decision after the Nepal Medical Association mounted pressure on the government to make appointment in the Institute of Medicine on the basis of seniority, ending politicisation.
Dr KC, a senior professor at the IoM has been on fast-unto-death since Monday demanding that the appointments at the IoM be made on the basis of merit and seniority instead of political affiliations.. Expressing solidarity with Dr Govinda KC´s fast-unto-death, doctors at TUTH have been halting services at the hospital.
Doctors at medical institutions across the country have been halting all medical services, except emergency.
