New education policy soon

Minister for Education Dina Nath Sharma has said that the government was doing necessary homework to unveil new education policy after amendment to the existing education policy as an attempt to make the country self-dependent and produce qualitative human resources.

Speaking at a news conference here today, Minister Sharma urged leaders of political parties to quit the greed for power as it was the time to solely focus on drafting the new constitution by concluding the ongoing peace process within six months.

Minister Sharma further said that the new generation would be incorporated for the scientific and competitive development of the education sector.

In Bardibas participants at a public hearing programme on ‘Textbook and Scholarship Management’ termed the existing educational policy impractical and non-applied.

The views were expressed at the programme organized by Education Journalists Group here on Monday.

The educational sector has been in the state of confusion and uncertainty owing to lack of sound management of the budget allocated for the sector, participants commented, adding that the targeted beneficiaries have not yet received textbooks and scholarships even when the educational year is coming closer to end.

Though budget has been allocated for textbooks and scholarships the implementation is still a far cry, they complained.

On the occasion, District Education Officer Nirmal Ghimire admitted that various problems have been surfaced when the educational programme envisaged by the budget documents are not managed in a transparent and regulated manner.

Educationist Krishna Chandra Jha commented that the education sector has witnessed myriad of problems due to wrong process adopted in formulating education policy, adding the putting vested interest in centre to provide employment to own loyal is the big problem.

Also speaking at the programme were Secretary of the Group Basudev Timsina and Roshana Subba.
