Nepali students throng at Chinese education exhibition in Kathmandu

Young Nepali students thronged at the Chinese Education Exhibition here on Sunday that was jointly inaugurated by Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai and Nepal's Education Minister Madhav Paudel.

Thirteen Universities from China put out their stalls at the exhibition venue with brochures and audio visuals that explain the courses on offer, application procedure, selection and other criteria. Delegates from the universities also explained the aspiring students and their parents on their questions.

Speaking during a brief opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Wu Chuntai said, "Parents give a lot of importance to their children' s education. Higher education in China is developing very fast and it is of international standards."

Nepali Minister of Education Madhav Paudel, speaking as the chief guest of the ceremony said, "China is developing very fast and we have very good friendly relations with China. By these educational opportunities and exchanges, Nepali and Chinese people will have good friendly relations in people to people level."

China is trying to lure in more and more foreign students. Last year it brought in 320,000 foreign students out of which almost 3, 000 were Nepalese. More than 10,000 Nepalese students go abroad for higher studies each year. China is increasingly becoming a major destination for them.

The exhibition was organized jointly by Embassy of China in Nepal, Nepal China Cultural and Educational Council, and Chinese Scholarship Council under the Chinese Ministry of Education.

The objective of the exhibition is to inform perspective students of Nepal about higher studies opportunities in China. The exhibition will be held on Monday in Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, around 30 km east of here and the next day in Little Angles School in Hattiban, about 10 km south of here.

"We have prepared many policies for students for example, scholarship schemes. We have three year diploma and we have done many agreements with universities," Harry Han, Foreign Affairs Secretary of Changzhou Textile Garment Institute told Xinhua.

Dr. Prajwal Pandey, A former student from Beijing Medical Institute shared his experience with Xinhua, "I did my MBBS and post graduate in China. I spent nine years there and time went by so quickly. The Chinese students there were very friendly and I had a great time. It's a wonderful place-- like a dream."

Zhejiang University of Technology, International School of Capital Medical University, Guangxi University, Nanchang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Ocean University of China, Changzhou Textile Garment Institute, China Pharmaceutical University had put out stalls at the exhibition.

Likewise, Chongqing University, Beihang University, China University of Mining and Technology, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics had also participated in the educational fare.
