Nepal Open University (NOU) has officially launched its four-year Bachelor in Information Technology (BIT) program, expanding its academic offerings to address the growing demand for skilled IT professionals in Nepal. The program will be delivered through the university's open and distance learning model, enabling students from across the country to pursue quality IT education with greater flexibility.
In a recent conversation regarding the program's rollout, Dr. Bhoj Raj Ghimire, Act. Dean Faculty of Science Health and Technology at Nepal Open University (NOU) shared key insights into the curriculum and the university’s vision. According to Ghimire, the BIT program has been meticulously crafted to bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial requirements, making it accessible to a wide range of students across the country regardless of their geographical location.
According to the university, admission is open to students who have successfully completed Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification from a recognized board. Applicants from all academic streams including Science, Management, and Humanities are eligible to apply, provided they meet the university's admission requirements.
Students will study specialized areas such as software development, database management, network administration, cybersecurity, web technologies, and system analysis, while also developing technical writing and professional communication skills that are essential in the modern workplace.
Upon graduation, students will be prepared for careers as software developers, web developers, database administrators, network administrators, system analysts, cybersecurity professionals, IT consultants, and IT managers. The degree also provides a strong academic foundation for further studies in information technology, data science, management, and related postgraduate programs.
The total tuition fee for the four-year program has been set at NPR 373,700, while the entrance application fee is NPR 1,000. To make the program more accessible, Nepal Open University has introduced an installment-based payment system, allowing students to pay the tuition fees across the eight semesters.
With the launch of the Bachelor in Information Technology (BIT) program, Nepal Open University aims to strengthen access to affordable, flexible, and industry-oriented IT education while contributing to the development of a skilled digital workforce for Nepal.
