Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel held a meeting with representatives of Tribhuvan University (TU), the Institute of Engineering (IOE), and the Association of Engineering Colleges Nepal (ECAN)-TU Chapter to discuss ways to promote engineering education in Nepal and increase student interest in engineering programmes.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Education in Singha Durbar, was attended by Tribhuvan University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, IOE Dean Prof. Dr. Sushil Bahadur Bajracharya, ECAN-TU Chapter Coordinator Dhan Prasad Poudel, senior ministry officials, and representatives of engineering colleges.
Minister Pokharel called on stakeholders to prepare a concrete roadmap to increase student attraction to engineering education while ensuring graduates have opportunities to work in Nepal.
The Minister also said the Ministry would prioritise reforms in the engineering education system, including improvements in examination processes and policy-level management.
Education Minister’s Adviser Shailendra Jha stressed the need for effective academic programmes to encourage more students to pursue engineering studies.
Chief of the Higher Education Division, Shri Prasad Bhattarai, urged engineering colleges to maintain educational quality in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) standards and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving engineering education and expanding access.
During the discussion, Dhan Prasad Poudel suggested that the Institute of Engineering (IOE) should take initiatives to improve engineering entrance examination pass rates.
Representatives from Kathmandu Engineering College, Sagarmatha Engineering College, Kantipur Engineering College, Lalitpur Engineering College, and National College of Engineering also participated in the discussion.
