The central office of Nepal Open University (NOU) was forcibly closed on the morning of the Poush 19. Individuals, purportedly acting in the name of students, undertook the closure, affecting key administrative offices such as the university's central office, the Vice Chancellor's office, Registrar's office, and the Dean's office in Manbhawan, Lalitpur.
Contrary to initial speculation, investigations and discussions with university officials and student representatives have revealed that no official student group was involved in the lockdown. The university administration has expressed regret for the unsanctioned and disruptive activities, emphasizing that it was not endorsed by any responsible officer, teacher, staff, or student of the institution.
In a recent notice issued by the university, it was disclosed that the lockdown was orchestrated by a group with vested interests, purportedly acting on behalf of the students. The notice, jointly published by students under the banner of United Students, asserted that the lockdown was a response to alleged illegal activities within the university and a perceived failure to adhere to university laws.
The university, in an official statement, has apologized for any unauthorized and unethical activities, asserting its commitment to its core mission. The notice affirmed that NOU remains dedicated to providing information and promoting education, despite the recent disruptions.
It's worth noting that the university has officially stated that no student organization has been officially recognized in connection with these events. The closure of the central office has raised questions about the internal dynamics and challenges facing Nepal Open University
