The National Examinations Board, Office of the Controller of Examinations, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, informs all concerned that the Secondary Education Examination (Class 12) for the year 2082 B.S., for both general and technical subject groups, will be held from 2082/01/21 to 2082/02/02 as per the Board’s decision. All necessary preparations to conduct the examination as per the schedule have been completed.
A total of 5,11,525 examinees will participate in this examination from 5,202 schools, which include:
- 395,908 regular examinees (of which 1,98,875 are male, 1,97,013 are female, and 20 are others), and 1,15,617 partial examinees.
Based on the number of examinees, Manang district will have the lowest number of participants with only 45 examinees, while Kathmandu district will have the highest number with 68,133 examinees.
A total of 1,591 examination centers have been designated across Nepal, which includes 1 center in Japan. Among them, Kathmandu district has the highest number of centers at 162, while Manang and Mustang districts each have only 1 examination center, the lowest.

Examinations are inherently sensitive matters. The Secondary Education Examination (Class 12), conducted at the end of Grade 12, is a crucial national examination. To ensure it is carried out fairly, respectfully, in a disciplined, organized, and credible manner, and to create a comfortable and effective environment for students, the National Examinations Board (NEB) appeals for the cooperation of all sectors.
The NEB calls upon teachers, staff, parents, local representatives, political parties, professional organizations, civil society, various community organizations, journalists, and all stakeholders to help in maintaining a peaceful and respectful examination environment, including ensuring uninterrupted electricity and internet services for the duration of the exam.

District-wise Distribution of Examinees

To make the examination systematic, dignified, and trustworthy, the following arrangements have been made:
Monitoring/Inspection:
- A District Examination Coordination Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Chief District Officer in each district, through which monitoring/supervision will be arranged.
- Monitoring will also be conducted by the Provincial Examination Operation and Management Committee under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the ministry responsible for education in the respective province.
- Special arrangements have been made for examination monitoring within the Kathmandu Valley.
- Regular monitoring arrangements have been made in examination centers outside Kathmandu Valley through the District Examination Coordination Committees and the Board’s provincial and branch offices.
Information Dissemination:
- A Control Room under the leadership of a Deputy Controller has been established with phone numbers 01-6638149 and 01-6630747 for communication two days prior and throughout the exam period.
- All Center Chiefs and heads of Board offices will be informed through bulk SMS (group messages) for exam-related communication.
- A verification system has been developed to confirm student details like name, surname, date of birth, subject, registration number, and symbol number from their admit card. For this, students can visit the official website of the National Examination Board at www.neb.gov.np and go to “student’s exam memo,” enter their class and registration number to verify.
- A Notice Board number 1618016639002 has been set up to disseminate necessary information throughout the exam period.
Mobile Phone Prohibition:
- Except for the Center Chief, mobile phones are completely prohibited in the exam center during the exam period.
- Candidates are not allowed to bring mobile phones, smartwatches, or any electronic devices into the exam hall, except for non-programmable calculators.
- If teachers, staff, inspectors, or examiners are found to have brought restricted items such as mobile phones into the center against the dignity of the exam, the items will be confiscated during inspection, and it will be treated as a violation under Section 17(1)(Cha) of the Education Act 2028, subject to legal action.
- Any candidate found using a mobile phone will have their entire exam cancelled, and this has been informed to both guardians and candidates via the center chiefs.
- If restricted materials like mobile phones or smartwatches are found brought into the exam hall in violation of instructions, they will be confiscated and legal procedures will be initiated under Section 17(2) of the Act as per the decision made by the National Examination Board on 2080/12/25 (Chairperson level). Center Chiefs have been instructed to coordinate with the District Examination Coordination Committee to carry out the necessary legal process.
Special Provisions:
- Special arrangements have been made for candidates with hearing impairments, visual impairments, intellectual disabilities, or other forms of disabilities.
- Arrangements have also been made for candidates residing in prisons or juvenile rehabilitation centers to attend their exams.
- Full mobilization of government mechanisms has been ensured.
- The District Examination Coordination Committee, as established by law, has been made fully accountable and empowered.
- Decisions made in meetings of the Central Security Committee and the District Examination Coordination Committees regarding smooth and dignified exam operation have been implemented.
- No individual will be allowed to enter the exam center without permission from the District Examination Coordination Committee or the Controller of Examinations.
- To conduct exams in an orderly, disciplined, and dignified manner, the District Examination Coordination Committee may direct the Center Chiefs to appoint inspectors from among teachers with experience in exam-related work.
- If the District Examination Coordination Committee is convinced that there has been a violation of exam integrity, it has the authority to immediately replace the Center Chief, Deputy Chief, and Inspectors.
- If any individual previously penalized for violating exam norms is found appointed to any exam-related responsibility, the District Examination Coordination Committee is empowered to make changes.
- If it is found that any exam center has facilitated acts violating exam integrity, the committee has the authority to recommend the cancellation of such exam center.
- If there is a discrepancy in the subject mentioned in the candidate's admit card and the Board-issued triplicate form, the subject in the admit card will be considered valid. If the symbol number differs, the symbol number in the triplicate will be used for the exam.
Regarding Question Papers:
- Question papers will be sent via electronic medium from the Board's system at least 30 minutes before the start of the exam.
- A separate User ID has been created for each exam center.
- Each exam center must log in using its User ID, and question papers can only be downloaded after entering an OTP received on the Center Chief’s mobile phone.
- The download and printing of question papers must be done in the presence of the Center Chief, Assistant Center Chief, and a designated security officer, as per instructions to the Center Chief.
All preparations have been completed for conducting the exams, including center determination, Center Chief briefing, interaction with district security agencies, management of confidential materials, monitoring, and inspections. Upholding the confidentiality, dignity, sensitivity, and credibility of the exams is our collective responsibility. Everyone involved is expected to act with alertness, awareness, goodwill, and full cooperation.
