Students affiliated to Madhesi Students’ Forum-Nepal and other fringe parties announced a joint struggle program against Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine (IOM), for not exercising inclusive and proportionate principle while admitting students in MBBS and Post Graduate (PG) level.
Organising a press meet here in Kathmandu today, they warnt to padlock the IoM Dean’s office if it failed to stop distributing forms for the Post Graduate entrance examination in various subjects.
According to student unions, they will be submitting an ultimatum to the Vice Chancellor of TU, and Dean of IoM tomorrow giving them till June 10 to stop form distribution.
Ashok Yadav, president, Madhesi Students’ Forum-Nepal said that if TU failed to stop form distribution, they would padlock IoM from June 11 and announce further protest programmes. He said, they would stage stern protest program if IoM failed to correct its decision and pave the way for admission of Dalits, Indigenous people and people from other groups.
Other
demands of students include doubling students’ admission in IoM, ending
irregularities in the name of foreign students, making the student
selection process transparent. The IoM had called for online application from May 30 to June 13, 2004
Entrance examination for MPH/MPHN/MPHE and MSc Clinical Biochemistry will be held on June 20, while entrance examinations for MD/MS/MDS and other PG programmes will be held on June 21.
IoM had allocated seats like Nepalese subsidised, Nepalese paying, Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) quota, IoM sponsored, MoHP recommended government agencies and foreign paying.
Nepalese and foreign students will be sitting for the same exam.
