Lumbini Technical University, established by the state government, is set to commence its academic programs from the upcoming 2080 session. With the goal of producing skilled manpower in engineering, agriculture, forestry, IT, and tourism, the university aims to become a leading center of technical education in the country, focusing on quality education, research, and innovation.
The university, headquartered in Banke, was officially inaugurated on July 2, 2022. The curriculum development work is underway at Lumbini Technical University, with a strong emphasis on practical and industry-relevant education. The initial focus will be on IT and engineering programs. The university aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in their chosen fields and contribute to the economic growth of the region. By developing a market-oriented curriculum, the university aims to prepare students for the changing demands of the industry and enhance their employability.
The university plans to make internships and project work mandatory, establish a placement cell to integrate education with earning, and foster collaboration between the university and the industry. Additionally, the university aims to establish a research and innovation center with modern infrastructure to promote intellectual property acquisition.
According to Registrar Reg Bahadur Bhandari, Lumbini Technical University has a unique approach to affiliations and is preparing to operate a formal college to provide high-quality educational programs. He clarified that while the university does not typically give affiliations to colleges, it can establish and operate its own college to ensure the delivery of professional skills to students.
Registrar Bhandari further stated that the university's priority will be given to students from local municipalities under Lumbini province. However, this does not mean that students from other places will be excluded from studying at the university. In fact, the university is open to students from all parts of Nepal and even neighboring countries.
The university aims to create a curriculum that aligns with the latest technology and sustainable development goals, and has granted freedom to faculty members in curriculum development and evaluation.
