Nepal Communiversity, in collaboration with Kathmandu University (KU), has officially launched the Master’s in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MSIE) program today. The new course will be offered by the KU School of Arts.

Speaking at the launch event, Dr. Uddhab Pyakurel, Dean of KU School of Arts, highlighted the program’s distinctive approach. While most master’s programs at the school already incorporate strong fieldwork and a two-week rural internship, the MSIE stands out as students will spend entire trimesters living and studying in Nepal’s three major geographical regions, including the Himal, Hill (Pahad), and Mountain (Himal).

The 15-months interdisciplinary program, featuring 45 credit hours and 30 student seats, moves beyond traditional classroom teaching. It follows a unique “community-as-curriculum” model, in which students will spend 10 weeks (one trimester each) immersed in the Terai, Pahad, and Mountain regions, and the remaining 20 weeks on Capstone Tracks, including Entrepreneurship, Research, Industry, and Global Immersion. Through direct engagement with local communities, social enterprises, and grassroots initiatives, students will gain a first-hand understanding of Nepal’s diverse socio-economic realities.

The program draws courses from social sciences, technology, and entrepreneurship. In the final semester, students can choose one of four specialized tracks: Academic Research, Entrepreneurship, Industry, or Global Immersion.

By the end of the program, graduates are expected to demonstrate deep self-reflection, sharp analysis of socio-political and economic dynamics, strong technical skills, and a robust entrepreneurial mindset.

Classes for the first batch are scheduled to begin in October 2026.
