Kathmandu University has introduced a new undergraduate program, Bachelor in International Relations and Diplomacy (BIRD), aimed at preparing students for careers in diplomacy, international affairs, policymaking, and global engagement.
The four-year bachelor's program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of international relations, foreign policy, diplomacy, global governance, geopolitics, international security, and the global economy. The curriculum combines theoretical foundations with practical learning experiences to help students develop analytical, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
A distinctive feature of the program is its focus on contemporary global challenges and emerging issues such as artificial intelligence, energy diplomacy, migration, and international cooperation. Students will also have the opportunity to study Chinese as a foreign language, enhancing their cross-cultural communication and international engagement capabilities.
The program places special emphasis on South Asia and its evolving role in regional and global affairs. Through internship opportunities and project-based learning, students will gain practical exposure to diplomatic practices, policy analysis, and international cooperation.
Graduates of the BIRD program can pursue careers in diplomatic services, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, policy research institutions, international business, trade organizations, and academia.
With the introduction of the Bachelor's in International Relations and Diplomacy BIRD, Kathmandu University aims to contribute to the development of globally aware professionals equipped to address complex international challenges and represent Nepal in an increasingly interconnected world.
