Kathmandu University’s Student Welfare Directorate (SWD) office is reopened after an eight-point agreement between Nepal Student Union  with the Kathmandu University administration.

NSU: A nepali congress aligned student union had padlocked the SWD on May 24 demanding, among other things, that KU conduct Student Welfare Council (SWC) polls, allow bachelor-level first year students to stay in the hostel till they graduate, appoint more professors in every department to improve the quality of education, provide KU Scholarship and Loan Scholarship to students and implement agreements reached with the NSU KU central committee.

A meeting between NSU cadres and Kathmandu University today decided to finalise the date and electoral system for SWC polls by May 31 through an all-party discussion. The two parties also decided to amend directives and announce SWC polls within mid-June, and do away with a provision to let only first-year students stay in the hostel.

Other decisions include initiating the appointment of experienced and senior faculty in each department and faculties’ evaluation even from students, continuity to the loan scholar scholarship/study loan to students from this academic session, retaining scholarship given to students, who fail in optional subjects.

The Kathmandu University administration has also decided to implement all agreements reached with students, including the one reached on May 27, 2012.
