Janaki Rural Municipality in Kailali has made a decision aimed at enhacing educational standards and attracting more students. Starting this academic year, the municipality will implement English-medium instruction from Grades 1 to 3 across all community schools.
The move comes as part of an effort to address declining interest from parents in community schools. By introducing English as a medium of instruction, the municipality aims to bolster confidence in these institutions and elevate the overall quality of education.
Education Officer Dharmanand Kapadi emphasized that this decision aims to not only improve educational standards but also increase attendance among children of all age groups.
Under this initiative, three child development classes and 30 community schools within Janaki Rural Municipality will transition to English-medium instruction. Furthermore, the municipality has undertaken teacher training programs, including 'Montessori', to equip educators with the necessary skills for teaching in English.
Parents have expressed their support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in improving educational standards. One of the parents, questioned the need for private education when quality schooling is available within the community. She believes that the introduction of English-medium instruction will further enhance the appeal of community schools.
