The Hult Prize at IOE, Pulchowk Campus, marked International Disability Day on December 7, 2024 (Mangsir 22, 2081), with a heartwarming event for the children of the Center for Disabled Children Assistance (CDCA) in Kapan, Kathmandu. The initiative, focusing on UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3, SDG 4, and SDG 10), engaged 16 differently-abled children aged 6 to 20. The event included free health checkups and medical kits sponsored by Sahayatri and Rotaract Club of KIST Medical College. The children also participated in creative activities, such as face painting, music sessions, and educational screenings about safety and optimism.
CDCA, an NGO led by chairman Dendi Sherpa, has been supporting differently-abled children since 2006, offering education, accommodation, disability aids, and medical services. This event highlighted the importance of inclusive education and disability-friendly policies. Special guest Chiara Parton, an environmental economist, joined the event, adding vibrancy through music and interaction with the children. Monster Meal also sponsored food, creating a joyful experience for all participants.
The Hult Prize team emphasized the significance of fostering empathy and supporting inclusive education. They called for government collaboration with organizations like CDCA to ensure a more disability-friendly society. The event served as a reminder to appreciate life's small blessings and inspire gratitude while championing a brighter, inclusive future for all.
