The nationwide Class 12 examinations begin smoothly today, Baisakh 21, 2082 (May 4, 2025), at 8 AM. In a coordinated effort, the National Examination Board (NEB) is conducting the exams simultaneously across all regions of the country.
A total of 1,591 examination centers have been set up across Nepal’s 77 districts. In addition, one center has been established outside the country—in Japan. The NEB has facilitated exams in Japan by emailing question papers to the designated center.
This year, Everest School in Japan is hosting examinations for 38 Nepali students residing there, showcasing the Board’s global coordination capabilities.
NEB Examination Controller Krishna Prasad Sharma urged all stakeholders to ensure the exams are conducted in a “fair, dignified, disciplined, well-managed, and student-friendly” manner. Continuing with the digital reforms introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, question papers are being delivered electronically to all examination centers.
“Each center will receive the question sets 30 minutes prior to the exam via a secure user ID,” Sharma stated. “The download and printing of papers will take place under strict supervision by the center chief, assistant chief, and local police personnel.”
To uphold the integrity of the examination process, chief district officers are leading local examination coordination committees. Mobile phones have been strictly prohibited inside the examination centers for everyone except the center chiefs.
A total of 395,908 students are appearing for the Class 12 exams this year, including 197,013 female and 198,875 male students. These students come from 5,202 schools spread across the country.
Kathmandu has the highest number of examination centers at 162, while remote districts like Manang and Mustang each have one center—highlighting the Board’s commitment to ensuring access to education in all regions.
To ensure smooth operations during the examination period, the NEB has deployed center heads, assistant center heads, around 2,000 administrative staff, at least one office assistant per center, and approximately 20,000 security personnel, including 18,300 police officers, based on the student volume. The Board has also urged students to attend the examinations with confidence and positivity.
