Free Student Union election: Supreme court directed to maintain the age bar

Supreme Court of Nepal today directed to maintain the recently introduced provision of Tribhuvan University Organisation and Education Administration Rules. This recently amended rules prohibits the candidacy of any student above the age of 28, in the election of free student union. 

 
Stating that the apex court order whether to revoke the provision would be issued after hearing, which will take place next week, the apex court today directed to maintain the decision status quo. 

The apex court also ordered the authorities not to go ahead with amendment of rules endorsed by the special meeting of the Tribhuvan University Assembly on April 5, despite objection from some student leaders. 


If the  Supreme court continues the status quo order after the hearing, elections to the Free Student Union may not take place on the stipulated date i.e. May 27. 

The bench also directed the authorities to submit their written explanations within 15 days on why the new provision was introduced.
