Alongside being a business school, Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) also values the need to be creative and innovative. With the same spirit, KUSOM Creative Club held a discussion session on January 2 with American poet Freeman Word. Word has appeared on TEDx and is the owner of Just King, a recording and production company.

During the event, Word shared few of his poems on topics like nationality, religion and world peace, among others. It was followed by a philosophical and inspiring discussion with the audience.

The audience comprising KUSOM students and a few other guests were enthusiastic and asked Word questions related to poetry, writing and also shared their viewpoints.

Word put forth his thought on the “importance of writing without believing that the first draft of any work is going to be perfect”. He stressed on the fact that perfection and quality come through editing, and the first draft is where the writers need to pour in their ideas.

He engaged the audience with an inspiring thought ‘Everyone can be a poet, everyone’s soul has something to say’.

He also emphasised on the fact that students are the ones responsible for tomorrow. Word revealed that he found Nepal similar to the the US of the yesteryears, and thus, it was time for students to work their way towards progress.

KUSOM Creative Club is a student oriented club where students with creative interests come together to share their ideas through platforms like kusomconnect.wordpress.com — a creative blog by KUSOMites and slam poetry sessions within the school.
