When the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) was established in 1987, the biggest challenge was to create an environment of dignity for people with technical skills.

Founding Executive Director of the CTEVT Professor Suresh Raj Sharma said that the council has succeeded in advancing the traditional and new skills hand in hand connecting them to livelihood.

“To establish a training unit in Karnali Zone and make the local youths participate was the toughest job for the council in the initial days,” Sharma addressed.
For those who had traditional skills but lacked any certification of their ability, the CTEVT had set a standard to provide certificates to them after testing their skills.

“Ignoring the traditional ways would have taken us nowhere,” remembered Sharma. Similarly, validity by the Public Service Commission for the CTEVT graduates was another remarkable achievement to bridge the gap between those who earned university degrees and those who dropped out of school under various circumstances, he added.

On the occasion, Ministry of Education´s Secretary Narayan Man Malego applauded the Council for its best performance in technical field in all development regions.
Three institutes affiliated to CTEVT--Nepal Army´s Institute of Health Science, College of Nursing, Kathmandu, Khwapa Poly Technical Institute, Bhaktapur and Nepal Politechnical Institute, Chitwan--were declared best institutes at the program.

The council also awarded four staffs as best performers, whereas seven others were felicitated for their dedication to work.
