The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today summoned Vice Chancellor of Purvanchal University Ramavatar Yadav and Registrar Raj Kumar Thakur to to face corruption charges in the university.

“We have summoned them to attend within three days,” Ishwori Paudel, CIAA spokesperson said.

CIAA has been probing corruption involving millions of rupees since December 29 after receiving complaints against the vice chancellor and registrar stating there was massive corruption in the construction of buildings and fitting of doors and windows as the university buildings were constructed with Rs 500 million in Gothgaun VDC of Morang District in 800 bigha land.

Although the buildings have been constructed, the offices are still running from rented homes, while the buildings have been rented.

Another CIAA source said that top officials of the university have been facing charges of granting affiliation to a numbers of colleges but they are yet to audit the income of the university while granting affiliation to more than 10 colleges.

The University Assembly held in October last year had rejected the financial proposal produced by the vice chancellor and the Registrar as professors raised serious questions on financial irregularities.
