The Government of Nepal has approved eight major decisions during the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday, with two significant decisions expected to have a direct impact on Nepal's education sector.
Among the decisions, the Cabinet approved the Foreign Academic Programs Operation and Regulation Regulations, 2083 and the Educational Consultancy, Language Teaching and Preparation Classes Operation and Management Regulations, 2083. These two regulations are expected to strengthen the governance, quality assurance, and regulatory framework for foreign academic programs, educational consultancies, language institutes, and test preparation centers operating in Nepal.
The newly approved regulations are aimed at establishing clearer operational standards, improving institutional accountability, and ensuring better quality of services provided to students seeking higher education opportunities both within Nepal and abroad.
Besides the education-related decisions, the Cabinet also endorsed several other important proposals, including:
- Appointed Suraj Shakya of Kathmandu as the Development Commissioner of the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority.
- Approved the operation of Geta Hospital in Kailali as the teaching hospital of Shaheed Dashrath Chand Health Science University.
- Approved the “Prison Regulations, 2083.”
- Approved the Sixth National Action Plan on Human Rights.
- Approved the Second Anti-Corruption Strategic Plan.
- Appointed Govinda Bahadur Karki, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, as the Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal.
