Tribhuvan University's Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Keshar Jung Baral has announced a restructuring plan to extend the Master of Philosophy (M. Phil.) in Management program by three more years, including in the disciplines of Humanities and Education.
When examinations and result publication are not conducted on time, it takes five to six years to complete a four-year undergraduate program. Recognizing the financial burden on students and parents due to the prolonged duration of higher education, he has declared an extension of the program to three years again.
Previously, Tribhuvan University had extended the Human Resource Management program from three to four years starting from the academic year 2077. Similarly, the Education program, which was initially a four-year course starting from 2072, has been operating as a four-year program.
In the ongoing discussions about extending the three-year undergraduate program to four years to improve educational quality and gain international recognition, Tribhuvan University is reverting the Master's program from four years to three years. Some officials at Tribhuvan University had previously proposed extending the three-year Bachelor's level program to four years in the Academic Council.
The Dean of Tribhuvan University's Management Department, Prof. Dr. Dilli Raj Sharma, believes that extending the Master's program from four to three years will make students more employable and will also allow for an internship of one year. This perspective was shared during a meeting by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki, who suggested an additional year of teaching methodology for those aspiring to become teachers after completing the three-year Bachelor's program.
Yogendra Prasad Dahal, Information Officer at Tribhuvan University, explained that reducing the three-year undergraduate program to four years will affect around 13,000 students, and the decision will be implemented from the examination of the first year of the academic year 2078.
Before the change in the annual and semester system, all Tribhuvan University departments and subjects will need to revise their curriculum, as mentioned by Yogendra Prasad Dahal. He added, 'The subject has been addressed in the policy and program.' Since the academic year 2071-72, the university extended the duration of the bachelor's degree in the Faculty of Management to four years. Additionally, starting from the year 2052, the two-year bachelor's degree was transformed into a three-year program.
