An interaction program was held with professors currently assigned to act as Vice-Chancellor at various universities during the ongoing transitional period.
The program took place in the presence of the Minister for Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, who also serves as the Pro-Chancellor of the universities. During the discussion, the acting Vice-Chancellors presented their action plans aimed at preventing disruptions in university operations and ensuring the continuity of academic and administrative activities until permanent appointments are finalized.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Pokhrel emphasized the need to:
- Ensure uninterrupted university examinations and academic schedules
- Maintain daily administrative functions
- Avoid making policy or administrative decisions with long-term consequences during the interim period
The Ministry informed that the process of appointing permanent Vice-Chancellors is actively underway. Selection committees have already been formed at eight universities, application deadlines have passed, and the selection process has moved into the next phase. Preparations are also in progress to initiate the process at other universities soon.
To strengthen transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection, the government has approved a new framework titled “Unified Procedure for Vice-Chancellor Selection and Recommendation at Various Universities, 2083.” This procedure introduces selection through an expert committee, ensuring procedural impartiality and accountability.
According to the Ministry, the Vice-Chancellor appointment process is currently being carried out strictly in line with this new procedure, reflecting the government’s commitment to good governance and institutional stability in higher education.
