In the present academic year, a total of 972 students from Nepal have ventured overseas to pursue medical education. During the year 2079, a total of 701 individuals sought permission to travel abroad, including 266 for pursuing a master's degree and 5 for fellowship programs.
Likewise, starting from Asoj 2077, one individual has obtained permission through the Nepal Ayurveda Medical Council for undergraduate studies, while seven individuals have received permission for postgraduate studies. Similarly, a total of 288 individuals have sought permission for undergraduate studies, and 244 individuals have obtained permission for postgraduate studies through the Nepal Health Professional Council.
In a similar vein, the Nepal Medical Council has granted permission to 696 individuals for undergraduate studies, 428 individuals for postgraduate studies, and 27 individuals for fellowship programs. Moreover, the Nepal Nursing Council has provided permission to 288 individuals for undergraduate studies and 63 individuals for postgraduate studies. Additionally, through the Nepal Nursing Council, 103 individuals have received permission for undergraduate studies, and 31 individuals have obtained permission for postgraduate studies.
During the ongoing academic session, Nepal has witnessed the arrival of 406 international students pursuing undergraduate medical education, along with 15 foreign students enrolled in postgraduate programs. The Medical Education Commission, in a recent press conference, disclosed that among these students, there were 3 individuals from Maldives, 388 from India, 1 American citizen of Nepalese origin, 9 students from Sri Lanka, and 3 students from Indonesia who have chosen Nepal for their undergraduate studies.
The Medical Education Commission has initiated the procedure to grant permission to 70 educational institutions for offering diverse programs in medical education. Additionally, the Commission has made a decision to provide affiliation to two educational institutions located in Kathmandu, enabling them to conduct certificate level nursing programs.
During a recent press conference, the commission officially declared that the Manmohan Memorial Institute of Health Science and Kathmandu Model Hospital have been chosen to receive affiliation for conducting the nursing program.
As per the resolution made by the executive committee on Baisakh 19, the recent decision of the commission has authorized the two institutions to commence nursing classes. Furthermore, the commission has determined to issue letters of intent to 60 educational institutions, granting them permission to offer a range of medical education programs. The approved letter of intent includes the operation of nursing, general medicine, radiography, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and medical lab technology programs.
Vice President Sri Krishna Giri conveyed that the commission has given its endorsement to the medical education policy, manpower projection, and national curriculum format for medical education. Furthermore, during the meeting, the program and budget worth Rs. 43,42,00,000 were approved.
