43 Candidates Apply for Tribhuvan University Vice-Chancellor Position

As the application deadline for the vacant Vice-Chancellor position at Tribhuvan University looms, 43 individuals have stepped forward to throw their hats into the ring.

The recommendation committee, headed by the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Ashok Kumar Rai, has initiated a competitive selection process for the prestigious position. Notable applicants include Prof. Dr. Chandra Mani Poudel, the former chairman of the examination board, Gunanidhi Neupane, Sangita Raya Majhi, Kushum Shakya, Tirth Khaniya, Nanda Bahadur Singh, and Lekhnath Sharma, the former Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Open University.

Former Vice-Chancellor Neupane has emphasized his candidacy as a step towards implementing much-needed reforms at Tribhuvan University.

The tenure of the previous Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Dharma Kanta Baskota, concluded on Kartik 16, prompting the Prime Minister's Office to appoint Shiva Lal Bhushal as the interim Vice-Chancellor.

The process of appointing the Vice-Chancellor has not been without controversy. The initial public notice, released on Poush 20, faced widespread opposition due to criteria that appointed leaders through a nominated process. Following public discontent, the Prime Minister directed the committee to revise the appointment criteria. A new advertisement, reflecting the updated criteria, was subsequently published on Magh 23.

The competition for the Vice-Chancellor position at Tribhuvan University is anticipated to be fierce, with stakeholders closely watching the developments in this crucial academic appointment.
