Chemical Engineering Colleges in Nepal

Chemical Engineering is a relatively new field of study in Nepal. Initially, teaching the course posed challenges due to limited resources and a lack of laboratories. However, with the country's industrial growth, the situation is improving, and it is hoped that more institutions will begin offering the BE in Chemical Engineering program in the future.

The program is designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a successful career in chemical engineering. It integrates principles of chemistry, physics, mathematics, biology, and engineering to solve problems involving the production or use of chemicals, fuel, drugs, food, and many other products.

To ensure that young people who wish to pursue a career in the field have opportunities in Nepal, Kathmandu University (KU) introduced the BE chemical course in 2015 AD. In 2019 AD, Tribhuvan University (TU) also introduced a Chemical Engineering course.

Currently, only two institutions offer this program: Pulchowk Engineering Campus, affiliated with TU, and Kathmandu University School of Engineering, affiliated with KU. The Bachelor of Chemical Engineering is a four-year undergraduate degree program divided into eight semesters, with an estimated total of 140 to 150 credit hours.

Objectives

  • To provide engineering students with a strong education in chemical processing and technologies.
  • To develop skilled engineers who can pursue careers in various industries.
  • To enable the students to use engineering and computational tools and techniques to analyze and solve real-world problems.
  • To enable the students to design safe, sustainable, and economic engineering systems for large-scale industrial processing and operations.

Scholarship

Both Pulchowk Engineering Campus and Kathmandu University School of Engineering offer scholarships for students interested in studying the BE Chemical course.

Out of the 48 available seats at Pulchowk Campus, 36 are full fee and the rest are regular.

Kathmandu University also provides scholarships for the program as per government rules.

  • The questions asked are of objective type.
  • Depending on the university policy, there might be a negative ranking system.
  • The marks obtained in the entrance exam are considered in preparing the merit list.
  • Due to limited available seats and high competition for BE Chemical, just passing marks don't ensure a place on the merit list.

Once you are on the merit list, you'll need to submit the following documents for the admission procedure:

  • Marksheet, character certificate, and certificate of S.E.E or S.L.C.
  • Mark sheet, transcript, migration, and character certificate of 10+2 or equivalent level.
  • Copy of citizenship or passport

Eligibility

University Admission Requirements
Tribhuvan University (TU) In the case of the Letter Grading System, students should have secured a minimum "C" Grade in all subjects in Grade 11 and 12.
Kathmandu University (KU)

10+2 (or equivalent) examinations with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) OR Minimum 2.4 GPA in aggregate and minimum C+ in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) and minimum C in other subjects.
