BSc in Environmental Science is a four-year eighth-semester program with a carefully crafted career-oriented curriculum offered by Mid-West University where students will study Biodiversity and Conservation, Research Methodology, Geochemistry and Geophysics, Environmental Projects, Atmosphere and Water Cycle, Evolutionary Biology, and Environmental Thermodynamics. The course teaches about disaster and humanitarian aid, energy and environment, mountain environment, etc.

The students will be able to build a foundation for a meaningful and enjoyable journey that will prepare them for a career in environmental research, policy development, conservation, or sustainable development. Nepal's rich biodiversity and complex environmental issues make it the ideal location for this program. The Nepali government plans to hire environmental professionals in each municipality and relevant line ministries because they recognize its importance.

The curriculum is designed to offer an interdisciplinary approach, combining components of biology, chemistry, ecology, geology, mathematics, and social sciences that serve as a foundation for students to develop the knowledge and creative thinking required to create a more peaceful coexistence between humanity and nature.

Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes

The main objective of the course is to develop competency in knowledge and skills on the various concepts and contemporary environmental issues and enable students to find sustainable solutions for the future of our planet. In specific, the course offers:

  • To design an independent research project focused on the environment;
  • To demonstrate an ability to apply appropriate skills and techniques for data collection and then analyze and integrate those data to draw conclusions related to environmental issues;
  • To demonstrate technical and problem-solving skills ranging from interpreting data, designing experiments, and analyzing scientific papers;
  • To demonstrate assessment of environmental impact and policy-making skills;
  • To create the ability to research and develop technology that helps reduce humans' impact on the environment.
