BHM is an internationally recognized four-year degree program affiliated to Kathmandu University. The program prepares students to take middle managerial and entrepreneurial positions in hotels, restaurants, travel and trekking agencies, amusement parks, destination management and marketing companies, event management firms, clubs, etc. in Nepal and abroad. The program emphasizes developing both technical and soft skills necessary to succeed in the hospitality and tourism industry in the 21st century. It provides students with an opportunity for learning, gaining exposure, and networking in the industry through its Internship program (1-year internship in the BHM program). It offers a wide range of concentration and elective courses to match students’ individual interests with the demand of the employment market.

Program Objectives

The main objective of the BHM Program is to prepare students to become competent, skilled, confident, and socially responsive professionals who can effectively take various managerial, entrepreneurial, and leadership roles in business and social organizations in today’s competitive environment. More specifically, the program aims to:

  • develop conceptual and procedural knowledge on the operation, management, and supervision of major departments of hotel, restaurants, travel, and tourism industry;
  • develop technical skills necessary for operation, management, and supervision of major departments of hotels, restaurants, travel and tourism industry;
  • deepen the knowledge and sharpen the expertise of students in their selected area within the hospitality and tourism industry;
  • develop a habit of critical and creative thinking in students;
  • develop analytical and problem-solving abilities in students;
  • improve collaboration, communication, and presentation skills of students
  • prepare students as sensible and responsive citizens with a high degree of professional, social, and ethical values; and
  • prepare students for higher studies (Masters’ level programs) in hospitality, tourism, and other relevant areas.

Key Features

  • It is a four-year, 132 credit hours bachelor degree program in management in line with the international standards of bachelor degree programs in business and management.
  • It provides students with an opportunity for learning, gaining exposure, and networking in the industry through its Internship program (1-year internship in the BHM program).
  • It emphasizes the importance of concentration/specialization in functional areas (about 10 percent of total coursework) to enable BHM graduates to face effectively and efficiently the complexities of a particular functional area.
