Each level is designed to build upon the last, ensuring that you develop the necessary expertise and skills to excel in the field of accounting. Here is a detailed look at what each level entails and the papers you will need to master.

Applied Knowledge: The Foundation

The Applied Knowledge level is your starting point. It consists of three papers that lay the groundwork for your understanding of key accounting principles. You must pass all three of these exams to progress to the next level.

  1. Accountant in Business (AB): This paper introduces you to the business environment, including the role of accounting in business, the various types of business entities, and how businesses are managed and structured.
  2. Management Accounting (MA): This paper focuses on the principles of management accounting, including costing techniques, budgeting, and the analysis of financial information for managerial decision-making.
  3. Financial Accounting (FA): In this course, you'll delve into the fundamentals of financial accounting, learn how to prepare financial statements, and understand the regulatory framework governing financial reporting.

Applied Skills: Building Expertise

Upon completing the Applied Knowledge papers, you will move on to the Applied Skills level. This level comprises six papers, each designed to deepen your technical knowledge and practical skills in key areas of accounting and finance, bringing your expertise up to the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree.

  6. Financial Management (FM): This field focuses on financial management principles, including investment appraisal, business finance, and risk management.

Strategic Professional: Mastering the Field

After successfully completing the Applied Skills level, you will advance to the Strategic Professional level. This level is split into two categories: Essentials and Options.

Essentials

The Essentials category comprises two compulsory papers that provide specialized skills and techniques required to become an expert accountant, capable of handling high-level advisory and consultancy roles.

  2. Strategic Business Reporting (SBR): Formerly P2, this 3-hour exam paper delves into advanced financial reporting, emphasizing the ability to analyze and interpret financial reports in a strategic context.

Options
