Kathmandu Model College (KMC) has been awarded the certification for Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) by the University Grants Commission (UGC). This certification is granted to colleges that operate autonomous programs, offer exceptional educational facilities along with boarding options to appeal to international students, and are affiliated with a recognized university.
KMC has managed to achieve a rare feat as less than 1% of colleges in Nepal have obtained the QAA certification. KMC has been an advocate of quality teaching and learning since its establishment and has aligned its educational practices accordingly to earn this recognition.
The evaluation of the special status of an educational institution is based on the provision and implementation of policies and plans, the effectiveness of the curriculum and extracurricular activities, the quality of education imparted, proper evaluation and employee development, research advancement, and community transformation initiatives. It also considers the availability of adequate infrastructure and learning resources, student capacity building and employment promotion, development of communication and technology, and accountability to stakeholders such as the public through information dissemination.
KMC has met all the criteria set by the commission and has been awarded the QAA certification. The certification was granted after a thorough assessment and evaluation by national and international experts, who closely monitored KMC's operations. As a result, KMC has been officially recognized as QAA certified.
As per the National Education Policy 2076, the government has the authority to shut down educational institutions that fail to maintain quality standards. The certification process through QAA has been in place since 2064 for both universities and colleges, overseen by the UGC.
The certification acquired by KMC will open up new doors of opportunities for its students, including scholarships to study in reputed universities at both national and international levels. The college has released a statement stating, "With everyone's support and cooperation, in the near future, KMC to become the best college in the world. and the whole country will be proud of it."
The Commission has also granted Srijana College of Fine Arts a QAA certification today.
