In 2022, Kathmandu University expanded its academic offerings by launching 21 brand-new programs across its seven schools. The School of Arts introduced programs such as Bachelor in Yogic Science and Wellbeing, Masters in Fine Arts, Master in Urban Studies, and Masters in Media Studies.

The School of Education introduced M.Ed. in STEAM Education, B.Tech.Ed. in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (General), and Computer Engineering/Information Technology.  The School of Engineering launched a Master's Program in Health Informatics. The School of Law introduced the Bachelor in Economics and Bachelor in Laws (BEC-LL.B) program. The School of Management introduced Masters in Business and Economics.

The School of Medical Sciences launched programs including DM Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, DM Neonatology, DM Critical Care, Master of Physiotherapy, and M.Sc. in Nursing (Psychiatric). Lastly, the School of Science introduced Ph.D. in Environmental Science with a specialization in Glaciology, B.Sc. in Agriculture, M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry, M.Sc. in Computational Mathematics, and Ph.D. in Computer Science.

Bachelor in Yogic Science and Wellbeing

The Bachelor in Yogic Sciences and Wellbeing program combines traditional yogic knowledge with modern science. It spans eight semesters, covering subjects like history, biology, philosophy, and practical yoga sessions. Specialized subjects include nutrition, ethics, entrepreneurship, and research applications. The program culminates with a research paper/thesis and a yogic internship. It prepares students for careers in health, wellness, and holistic wellbeing.

Masters in Fine Arts

The Kathmandu University School of Arts has introduced the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program. This research-oriented program focuses on the practical aspects of fine arts while supporting theoretical understanding. It offers advanced education to creative individuals, art educators, aspiring artists, and designers. The program promotes creativity through independent projects, critical thinking, and problem-solving approaches.

MFA graduates are prepared to address practical issues and are encouraged to work across disciplines. With interdisciplinary experience and exposure to various fields, they contribute to the visual culture of Nepali society and play important roles in their respective fields.

Master in Urban Studies

The Master of Urban Studies is a recent program launched by Kathmandu University in 2022. It offers an interdisciplinary approach to understanding cities, urbanization, society, and governance. The program addresses the need for skilled human resources in urban development and focuses on creating resilient and sustainable cities. Students gain theoretical knowledge and practical research-based skills in sustainable urban development, social and infrastructure planning, and urban policy analysis.

It provides unique learning, practice, and research opportunities to meet the growing demand for professionals in sustainable urban development.

Masters in Media Studies

The Master of Media Studies (MMS) program is a newly introduced offering by the School of Arts at Kathmandu University, launched in 2022. Completed in two years, it consists of four semesters, providing 60 credit hours through various classes and papers.

The program aims to blend media and communication skills, emphasizing theory, analytical approaches, production skills, research, and communication competence. It employs diverse teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, case studies, internships, and practical experiences. The first year focuses on building strong research and analytical skills, while the second year allows for specialization through elective courses, media projects, internships, and dissertations.

The program aims to develop a deep understanding of media principles, advanced analytical skills, media production expertise, research abilities, and strategic communication and advertising capabilities. It prepares students for leadership roles in the media industry and provides a foundation for further academic pursuits in the liberal arts and social sciences.

M.Ed. in STEAM Education - One year

Kathmandu University's School of Education (KUSOED) has launched a one-year Master of Education (M Ed) program in STEAM Education. The program aims to promote innovative approaches in education, produce education professionals dedicated to primary education, and integrate cognitive and effective learning domains.

It emphasizes a holistic, multi-methods approach to educational practice and research. Students will develop skills in designing interdisciplinary curricula, using ICT tools for engaged learning, and applying innovative pedagogical approaches. They will also contribute to transforming educational practices and prepare teaching resources based on STEAM perspectives.

B.Tech.Ed. (Civil Engineering)

The Bachelor of Technical Education (B. Tech. Ed.) program in Civil Engineering was launched in 2022 under the Kathmandu University School of Education. This program aims to prepare individuals for careers in the private and public sectors as instructors, teachers, trainers, or professionals in technical and vocational education.

It is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills in civil engineering through eight semesters and 136 credit hours. The program adheres to Nepal's National Vocational Qualification Framework (NVQF) and focuses on developing competencies, vocational pedagogy, problem-solving abilities, and advanced learning skills.

Graduates of the program are eligible for master-level studies in various fields, such as technical and vocational education, teacher education, general management, technology management, and educational leadership.

Master's Program in Health Informatics

Kathmandu University School of Engineering has launched a Master's degree program in Health Informatics in 2022. This program recognizes the importance of Health Information Systems (HISs) in improving healthcare. Health Informatics is an interdisciplinary field that combines health science and information and communication technologies (ICTs) to collect, process, and analyze health data.

The program aims to enhance the skills of HIS users, develop HISs, engage in health research and innovation, and ensure the long-term sustainability of HISs. It integrates knowledge from both health science and information systems development and management. The program prepares professionals to lead and manage Health Information Systems and covers various applications of ICT in health science.

Bachelor in Economics and Bachelor in Laws (BEC-LL. B)

The BEc LLB program is a newly launched five-year full-time study program at Kathmandu University School of Law. It aims to produce lawyers specializing in the legal implications of financial and economic dilemmas. The program integrates law and economics, equipping students with comprehensive knowledge. Graduates can work as lawyers, legal advisors, and consultants, or pursue careers in public administration, real estate, business, taxation, or consultancy services.

The program emphasizes analytical skills, informed decision-making, and ethical judgment. Students engage in practical experiences, legal research, writing, and presentations to develop well-rounded skills for professional challenges and contribute to social justice.

Master in Business and Economics

The Master in Business and Economics (MBE) program at Kathmandu University offers a comprehensive post-graduate education in business and economics. Master in Physiotherapy

The Master in Physiotherapy (MPT) program at Kathmandu University is designed to produce competent physiotherapy graduates who can autonomously practice with advanced knowledge and practical skills. The program specializes in Musculoskeletal, Neurology, Cardiopulmonary, Community, Paediatrics, Geriatrics, and Women’s Health.

Eligibility requires a Bachelor of Physiotherapy or equivalent degree, registration with the Nepal Health Professional Council, and scoring a minimum 50th percentile in the Entrance Examinations. The program covers various subjects, including Biomechanics/Kinesiology, Therapeutic exercises, Pain sciences, Exercise physiology, Ethics, Evidence-based practice, and more.

The KU School of Medical Sciences has expanded its program offerings to include three new specialized areas of study. These programs include DM Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, DM Neonatology, DM Critical Care, and M.Sc. In Nursing (Psychiatric).

BSc in Agriculture

Kathmandu University introduced the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (B.Sc. Ag.) program among its 20 new programs launched in 2022. The BSc Ag program aims to address the pressing need for advancements in agricultural science. The comprehensive four-year program covers various aspects of agriculture, including plant and animal science, soil and pesticides, weed management, horticulture, farming systems, and more.

MSc in Computational Mathematics

The School of Sciences at Kathmandu University introduced the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computational Mathematics program in 2022. This two-year program is designed to meet the growing demand for highly qualified graduates with strong mathematical knowledge and computing skills. By emphasizing the practical application of computing solutions, students are equipped to tackle complex problems in various fields, including science, engineering, technology, medical research, and finance.

In 2022, the School of Sciences at Kathmandu University launched three other new programs to cater to diverse academic interests. These programs include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Analytical Chemistry and a PhD in Environmental Science with a specialization in Glaciology.
