Any real-world issue can be designed as a mathematical model and solved to fulfill the objectives with a solid mathematical foundation and great computing skills. The Department of Mathematics at Kathmandu University (KU) has started an interdisciplinary undergraduate program B.Sc. in Computational Mathematics as of the 2017 first semester in response to the need for highly qualified graduates with solid mathematical knowledge and computational skills to deal with complex problems arising in all sorts of disciplines such as Science, Engineering, Technology, and Medical Research, Financial & Banking institutions, and product-based industries in Nepal. Students with backgrounds in science and engineering who have finished undergraduate programs are looking for higher-level education in the nation. Many students with backgrounds in engineering or computer science and engineering have shown an interest in developing their high-level mathematics skills for their academic and professional careers. The BSc graduates who have a strong background in mathematics would like to pursue and advance their computational talents in higher-level degrees. The Department of Mathematics at KU intends to launch a two-year (four-semester) master's degree program in computational mathematics to meet the needs of the aforementioned students. With an emphasis on creating and putting into practice computing solutions, this curriculum will equip the students to hone their abilities in utilizing mathematical tools and computational skills to investigate a wide range of problems appearing in academia, industry, and technology.
