Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is a multidisciplinary program. It composes subjects such as dancing, design, sculpture, graphic communication, interior design, painting, drama, and music. Fine Arts essentially is an art form, which includes objects mainly created for concept or aesthetic value.

BFA graduates will be skilled practitioners who will be able to express themselves through their art. The program helps to nurture the students’ talent and capabilities as it is the course where students will hone their creative practice through practical classes, instructions, and engagement.

Art graduates have broad career options from working in art studios, advertising companies, publication houses, fashion houses, etc. They can also opt to work as freelance workers. Beyond that students can explore their careers in Teaching, Direction, Photography, Graphic Designer, Animator, Interior Designer, Entrepreneur, Interdisciplinary Artist, etc.

Students who want to pursue this course should be creative, patient, keen observers, imaginative and original.

However, challenges are still there in a country like Nepal. As per Dr. Ramesh Pokhrel, BFA has not given much importance here in Nepal compared to other subjects. He opined that there should be more establishment of Fine Arts College in each district. He expressed his dissatisfaction towards the government for not investing in the Art sector though it is a much-talked subject. He also stressed the fact that only through collaborative effort, the Fine Art sector can prosper academically and professionally.

Edutalk is an initiative of edusanjal that explores the various aspects of education in Nepal. Edutalk's 27th episode featured an interactive conversation with Dr. Ramesh Pokharel, Associate Prof. and Chief, Lalitkala Campus, Mr. Navindra Rajbhandari, Vice-Principal, Sirjana College of Fine Arts, and Mr. Kaushal Joshi, Assistant Prof./Program Coordinator, Department of Art and Design, Kathmandu University. The session was moderated by Mr. Rajan Koirala, Chief Business Officer at edusanjal.
