On the occasion of the 59th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the King Gyanendra Vir Bikram Shah Dev, the then Vice-Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Kritinidhi Bishta inaugurated Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya in Dharan, which was previously known as Gyanendra Sainik Purwanchal Awasiya Mahavidyalaya. In the first year of its establishment, the Mahavidyalaya had 99 students, comprising of 82 male and 17 female students, who were enrolled for class 4. The Mahavidyalaya had 5 teachers, 8 staff, and some army personnel. The first principal of the Mahavidyalaya was Mr. Aj Bahadur KC, and the first liaison officer was Major Kisan Singh Bhandari. The Mahavidyalaya spans across an area of 12 bigha 11 kattha 2 dhur, and so far, 1,148 students have completed their studies from this institution.
