Mechinagar Municipality is one of the 15 municipalities in Jhapa District of Koshi Province. As per the 2021 census, the municipality has a total population of 133,073, comprising 64,001 males (48.1%) and 69,072 females (51.9%), with a literacy rate of 83.26%. Spanning 192.85 square kilometers, Mechinagar Municipality exhibits the population density of 690 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 15 wards.
According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Mechinagar has 110 schools. Of these, 59 are private and 44 are public. The breakdown includes 78 pre-schools, 101 basic schools, and 57 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 16 offer +2 programs.
