Lalitpur Metropolitan City is one of the 6 municipalities in Lalitpur District of Bagmati Province. As per the 2021 census, the metropolitan city has a total population of 294,098, comprising 146,730 males (49.9%) and 147,368 females (50.1%), with a literacy rate of 89.99%. Spanning 36.12 square kilometers, Lalitpur Metropolitan City exhibits the population density of 8,142 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 29 wards.

According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Lalitpur has 287 schools. Of these, 225 are private and 51 are public. The breakdown includes 167 pre-schools, 201 basic schools, and 171 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 61 offer +2 programs.
