Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City is one of the 13 municipalities in Kailali District of Sudurpashchim Province. As per the 2021 census, the sub-metropolitan city has a total population of 198,792, comprising 98,184 males (49.4%) and 100,608 females (50.6%), with a literacy rate of 83.28%. Spanning 261.75 square kilometers, Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City exhibits the population density of 759 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 19 wards.

According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Dhangadhi has 184 schools. Of these, 103 are private, 73 are public, and 1 are community. The breakdown includes 135 pre-schools, 165 basic schools, and 72 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 25 offer +2 programs.
