Sunwal Municipality is one of the 7 municipalities in Parasi District of Lumbini Province. As per the 2021 census, the municipality has a total population of 72,085, comprising 33,793 males (46.9%) and 38,292 females (53.1%), with a literacy rate of 83.89%. Spanning 139.1 square kilometers, Sunwal Municipality exhibits the population density of 518 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 13 wards.

According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Sunwal has 51 schools. Of these, 16 are private and 32 are public. The breakdown includes 36 pre-schools, 51 basic schools, and 28 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 14 offer +2 programs.
