Maharajgunj Municipality is one of the 10 municipalities in Kapilvastu District of Lumbini Province. As per the 2021 census, the municipality has a total population of 64,645, comprising 32,536 males (50.3%) and 32,109 females (49.7%), with a literacy rate of 67.66%. Spanning 112.21 square kilometers, Maharajgunj Municipality exhibits the population density of 576 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 11 wards.

According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Maharajgunj has 91 schools. Of these, 13 are private and 65 are public. The breakdown includes 56 pre-schools, 91 basic schools, and 11 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 4 offer +2 programs.
