Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City is one of the 8 municipalities in Banke District of Lumbini Province. As per the 2021 census, the sub-metropolitan city has a total population of 164,444, comprising 82,755 males (50.3%) and 81,689 females (49.7%), with a literacy rate of 76.24%. Spanning 85.94 square kilometers, Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City exhibits the population density of 1,913 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 23 wards.

According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Nepalgunj has 151 schools. Of these, 85 are private and 47 are public. The breakdown includes 95 pre-schools, 138 basic schools, and 68 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 26 offer +2 programs.
