Scholarships Notice by Film Development Board, Nepal

Nepal Government, Ministry of Information and Communications, Film Development Board (FDB), Chabahil, Kathmandu announces PhD, MPhil, Postgraduate, Undergraduate and Secondary Level Scholarships for 2081.

The Film Development Board (FDB) was established on 30 June 2000 by the Government of Nepal according to the existing Motion Picture (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act , which was amended on 20 November 1991.

For the development of the Nepalese film industry, scholarships are provided for students who want to study film-related courses. 

Eligibility

Eligible Nepalese students, researchers, and researchers studying related subjects for scholarships to be provided by the board to encourage film-related studies, research, and scholarship.

Scholarship Details

PhD Research Scholarships

  • For three candidates pursuing PhD in film studies.

MPhil Research Scholarships

  • For two candidates pursuing an MPhil in film studies.

Postgraduate Scholarships

  • For two candidates conducting research in film studies.
  • For two candidates studying elective film-related courses and writing research papers.

Undergraduate Scholarships

  • For a total of 13 candidates majoring in film studies at the undergraduate level:

    • Open Category: 7 candidates
    • Reserved Category: 6 candidates (breakdown as follows):
      • Madhesi, Dalit, Disabled, and Indigenous - 4 candidates
      • Women - 2 candidates

Secondary Level Scholarships

  • For up to five candidates studying film-related subjects at the secondary level (10+2 or equivalent), selected based on inclusivity principles.

  • Candidates applying under Reserved Quota can also apply under the Open Category.

Required Documents

  1. Application form affixed with a Rs. 10 postage stamp  
  2. Copy of Nepali citizenship certificate  
  3. Verified or notarized copies of academic qualifications  
  4. Scholarship recommendation from local authorities, educational institutions, or relevant organizations (if applicable)  
  5. Certification from relevant authorities for female, Madhesi, disabled, Dalit, Indigenous, or martyr family applicants  
  6. Approved research proposal for Master’s, MPhil, or PhD candidates  
  7. Certified recommendation document from the local body for the scholarship  
  8. Proof of previous experience in film-related work and any additional recommendation letters (if applicable)

Guideline for Email Submission

  1. Email Subject Format: Use the following structure: Application Level_First Name_Year_Institution Name (e.g., Bachelors_Buddhi_2081_OSCAR, Masters_Ritu_2081_NFC).  
  2. Document Format: Submit all required documents in PDF or JPG format, ensuring a minimum resolution of 200 dpi.  
  3. Attachment Requirement: Attach all necessary documents for a single application in one email. If additional documents are needed, contact the board before the deadline.  
  4. Submission of Originals: Applicants must present original application forms, all submitted documents, and a Rs. 10 postage stamp during interviews or at another convenient time.
