MSc Thesis Research Grant - AFU and BAU

The collaboration between the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) and Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU), under the project "Enhancing Production Efficiency and Employment Linkage: Advanced Technology-driven Urban and Peri-urban Horticulture in Bangladesh and Nepal," supported by USAID/Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Horticulture (HIL), UC DAVIS, is granting a research fund for a thesis to an energetic MSc student (preferably female) from the Department of Horticulture, AFU. The ideal candidate should express interest in cultivating superior planting materials to boost production efficiency, implementing cutting-edge planting methods, and fostering entrepreneurial skills among women and youth. This approach aims to bolster urban communities' access to custom-tailored, nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables, ultimately aiding in the pursuit of food and nutritional security.

Research Coverage

  • Evaluation of recent high-yielding and climate-resilient varieties of horticultural crops.
  • Innovative tools and technologies for the propagation of different horticultural crops.
  • Develop strategies for off-season production of horticultural crops to enhance the livelihood of farmers and ensure optimum nutritional security.

Key Details

  • The required documents should be sent to kmishra@afu.edu.np by the application deadline of November 13, 2023.
  • The research grant will be a maximum of US$ 1000 which should cover all the expenses, including travel and accommodation, data collection, analysis, and reporting

Based on the applicant’s eligibility and the submitted documents, one student will be selected to conduct short-term research for up to eight months in the project district(s) of Nepal: Makwanpur, Kapilvastu, Palpa, and Kavrepalanchok.
