Deciding what to study after completing one’s high school education is one of the most daunting yet most critical factors that ultimately shape one’s career and life path. In today’s era where degrees and certifications are so widely available, young students are often bombarded with a plethora of options to choose from. Young minds are often at risk of making wrong decisions if they do not conduct thorough research on time.
The majority of Nepalese students’ first choice is to go abroad and get their Undergraduate Degrees but not everyone can afford to go abroad. Because of the psychological value that young minds have placed on an international academic program, many institutions have started selling their brand with this Unique Selling Point (USP) and have started handing out affiliated international degrees. However, no matter how cool it sounds, before jumping into such a trend it is imperative to understand that - “international” does not guarantee “quality”.
Before choosing an institute or university for education, “accreditation” is one of the prime factors one must consider. Tribhuvan University (TU) is a 59-year-old higher-education institution that is officially accredited by the Ministry of Education, Nepal. The value of its accreditation is accepted worldwide. On the other hand, if you get a degree from XYZ College in Nepal that is affiliated with an International University, the value and acceptance of that degree need to be thoroughly evaluated. Many of these international institutions are not even recognized in their own countries. Students blindly trust such institutions' authenticity because only they are “international”. Their blind trust is untrue and may spoil one's golden future.
In addition to accreditation, TU has a bilateral relationship with 160 well-known international universities from the 30 most sought countries. It has established a Centre for Quality Assurance and Accreditation which is one of the Partner Institutions of MERGE, Erasmus+ Programme to globalize the accelerated pace of internationalization of higher education worldwide. Therefore, it has an incomparable “international network”; however, any international degree that you get in Nepal does not have a comprehensive network like that. Therefore, it is better to choose TU degrees.
