The British College (TBC) Kathmandu has officially maintained its status as the first and only college in Nepal to be awarded re-accreditation by the British Accreditation Council (BAC), a premier independent quality assurance body in the United Kingdom. This prestigious accreditation, which is valid until May 31, 2030, follows a comprehensive and rigorous institutional inspection conducted by a team of BAC inspectors from the UK. The evaluation covered every aspect of the college’s operations, including academic programs, teaching quality, governance, student support, learning resources, and graduate employability, ensuring the institution operates in total compliance with globally recognized benchmarks.
To achieve this milestone, The British College successfully met the BAC’s stringent standards across six key areas: Governance, Strategy, and Financial Management; General and Academic Management; Teaching, Learning, and Assessment; Student Support, Guidance, and Progression; Premises, Facilities, and Learning Resources; and Quality Management, Assurance, and Enhancement. This recognition is not a one-time achievement; accredited institutions are subject to ongoing monitoring and periodic inspections to ensure they continue to provide a high-quality student experience and maintain institutional excellence throughout the accreditation period.
The re-accreditation serves as a significant milestone for Nepal’s higher education sector, providing independent international validation that TBC operates according to global best practices. Dr. Declan P. Bannon, Academic Dean at The British College, noted that this outcome provides further assurance to students and parents that quality and academic excellence remain central to the college’s mission. Lucy Fox, Deputy Chief Executive of the BAC, congratulated the institution on its commitment to maintaining clear standards, while Rajen Kandel, CEO and Founder of The British College and British Education Group, described the achievement as a landmark for Nepal, reinforcing the institution's standing within the global education community. BAC accreditation demonstrates that an institution has undergone a rigorous independent assessment against the BAC accreditation scheme standards, covering areas such as academic management, quality assurance, student welfare and institutional governance. Accreditation reflects a commitment to maintaining clear standards and supporting a quality student experience. The British College has been accredited by BAC since 2021.

Notably, this successful reaccreditation follows an earlier period this year when the college was targeted by a coordinated campaign by an organized group seeking to spread misinformation and mount an extortion attempt. Despite the disruptions that led to multiple arrests and legal proceedings against the perpetrators, the college remained focused on its academic mission. The subsequent independent inspection by the UK team and the awarding of accreditation until 2030 provide a powerful international validation of the College's standards and integrity. This outcome sends a clear message to students, parents, employers, academic partners, and the wider public that The British College continues to meet the highest benchmarks for educational quality and institutional effectiveness, regardless of external challenges.
