Village Schools in the Process of Adjustment by the Municipality

In response to the closure of village schools due to villagers' preference for markets and increased youth migration, Galkot Municipality in Baglung has initiated adjustments in coordination with nearby schools. This aligns with the Education Adjustment and School Coordination Procedure of 2079, as per the decision by the municipal council.

A total of 12 schools in Galkot have undergone adjustments, with more in the pipeline. Despite the completion of physical infrastructure, declining student numbers have posed educational challenges. The municipality has actively engaged in school coordination and adjustments for the past five years.

Education Officer Shiv Khadka highlights specific criteria for student numbers in different classes, ranging from 15 to 25 students in grades 1–12. The aim is to address challenges posed by decreasing student enrollments. The municipal spokesperson, Hem Bahadur Bhandari, emphasizes the positive impact of the program, streamlining teachers and enhancing administrative efficiency.

Moreover, the municipality now provides transportation services to facilitate student commutes, making transportation more accessible and boosting student enthusiasm. The proactive measures have not only addressed issues like long walks and inconvenient travel during the monsoon but have also created a more conducive learning environment.

Nikita Thapa, a grade 12 student at Janahit Secondary School, appreciates the improved transportation system, stating that commuting has become more convenient, reducing concerns about encountering wild animals during the journey.

In conclusion, Galkot Municipality's proactive approach to school adjustments and coordination has significantly improved the educational landscape, providing effective solutions to challenges faced by both students and educators.
